2026 FEDERAL ELECTION FILING DEADLINES

If you are going to run for FEDERAL office (US House/Congress, US Senate, or President), you must make sure you are eligible to run. You will need to verify the filing dates and criteria with your state as they may have changed due to redistricting. You will sometimes need to get a large number of signatures from registered voters in the district where you wish to run and/or you may need to pay filing fees to the government and/or pay fees to the Republican or Democratic party, if you wish to run as a Republican or Democrat.

Please understand what all the deadlines, filing requirements and fees are. In some states, filing fees to run for congress can be more than $10,000.00 (Florida and others). In some states there is no filing fee. Fees and deadlines vary from state to state.

Do not wait until the last minute to put your campaign together. It should be ready to roll out BEFORE you file! And remember, if you are running for FEDERAL office, there is NO requirement that you have to live in the district where you are running. You don’t even need to live in the same state to run, however, if you win your election, you are required to become a resident of that state (not district).
